In the monochrome landscape paintings of Belgian artist Louis Blondiau, the positive energy and harmony of nature take center stage. The artist draws inspiration from traditional Asian painting and Taoism. His serene seascapes, in particular, exude an extraordinary sense of calm, yet Blondiau manages to convey movement in the waves through his distinctive painting technique. The countless scratches in the paint form a unique combination of engraving and oil painting techniques. The endless seas in Blondiau’s works, occasionally punctuated by sailboats on the horizon, continue to captivate: the longer you look, the more you see.
Blondiau trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Braine L’Alleud, Belgium. His work has been selected for various curated exhibitions and art prizes in the United Kingdom. He has previously exhibited at the Dulwich Picture Gallery (London), the Katwijks Museum, and the Royal Academy of Arts (London, 2023 and 2024). In 2023, he was nominated for the Dutch ‘Painting of the Year’ initiative. His paintings are also part of private collections worldwide. After living and working in London for fifteen years, Blondiau has been based in Leiden, the Netherlands, since 2000.
