Cornelis Kuypers (Gorinchem 1864 – 1932 Soest) works in the spirit of the Hague School. His depiction of the Dutch landscape in particular shows strong similarities with the work of Hague School artist Willem Maris. Like his father Jan Kuypers, who was a landscape painter, Cornelis had a special predilection for the Dutch landscape. He therefore regularly went into nature to capture the surroundings of Rijswijk and later the wooded Renkum on canvas. His many painting sessions in the Dutch region the Veluwe earned him the nickname 'Painter of the Veluwezoom'. In his impressionistic representations, figures were always subordinate to nature. Kuypers has been very successful with his work, particularly in the United States. He received several medals, including twice at the international salon in Barcelona. His works of art are represented in the collections of Museum Arnhem, the Frans Hals Museum and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, among others.
